Assalaamu alaikum sheikh. Hope this mail finds u in best of eeman and health. I want one small clarification from you regarding return of Eesa Ibn Maryam (as). I am engaged in a discussion with one of my collegue who is from ahmadiyyah (qadianis). While I was searching for the hadiths regarding the return of Eesa Ibn Maryam(as), I found a Hadith in sahih Muslim which says that he will lead the prayer after his descent. But I have read in another Hadith that imam Mahdi will lead the prayer. I hope you may be knowing this hadiths already.kindly clarify. Is there any books or articles u suggest on ahmadiyyah

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

With regard to the descent of ‘Eesa (Jesus) may Allaah exalt his mention at the end of times as a just ruler, there are many authentic Ahaadeeth whose meanings have reached the degree of Tawaatur (Tawaatur means being transmitted by a group of narrators from a group of narrators, generation after generation and so forth, and they are all trustworthy people and it is absolutely impossible for them to agree on a lie). For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 88216 and 129809.

Besides, Jaabir may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “‘Eesa, son of Maryam (Mary) may Allaah exalt his mention will descend, and their leader [i.e. the leader of Muslims] will say: “Come and lead us in the prayer.” Thereupon, ‘Eesa may Allaah exalt his mention would say: “No, you yourselves are leaders over one another. He will say that in view of the honour that Allaah has bestowed on this Nation.” [Muslim] This leader is Al-Mahdi may Allaah exalt his mention as per some narrations.

As regards the narration to which you referred in Saheeh Muslim, then if you mean the narration which reads: “...Your leader would be from amongst yourselves.”; then it does not state that ‘Eesa may Allaah exalt his mention will be the prayer leader [Imaam]. Indeed, the meaning of this narration is clarified by Ibn Abi Thi’b as he said: “Do you know what does ‘Your leader would be from amongst yourselves’ mean? I (the narrator Al-Waleed ibn Muslim may Allaah have mercy upon him) said: “Please let me know.” He said: “It means that he will rule with the Book of your Lord The Almighty and the Sunnah of your Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ).

Allaah Knows best.
