Question:

What are the pleasures of the people of Paradise in the grave life? Do they visit one another?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

The torment and pleasure in the grave are proved in the Quran, Sunnah and by the consensus of the Muslim scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them and this is explained in detail in Fatwa 81829. The torment and pleasure of the grave are experienced by the body and soul together, as indicated by the religious texts and the consensus of the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them. This was explained in detail in the aforementioned Fatwa.

As for the nature of the torment and pleasure in the grave, it should not be discussed because the human mind cannot grasp it and there is no religious text that has explained and clarified it.

The narrations stated that in the grave, the deceased is shown their place in Paradise or Hell, and if the person is a wrongdoer his grave will tighten and he will be struck with an iron hammer. If he is a believer, his grave is filled with green plants and becomes spacious. For more benefit in this regard, please refer to Fataawa 82911 and 83540.

As for souls visiting one another after death, this is also confirmed as we explained in Fatwa 83719.

Allaah Knows best.
