Question:

I am christian married to a muslim egyptian man, and he is a believer of islam. My concern is that, am I entitled to the same rule about my financial rights as wife regardless that I am not muslim? please help me.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, we thank you for your trust in us and for writing to us.

There is no difference between a wife from the People of the Book, whether she is Christian or Jew, and a Muslim wife in terms of the rights that she has upon her Muslim husband, and the rights that he has upon her.

He is obliged to fulfill her rights fully in the same manner that she is obliged to fulfill his rights entirely. Allah Says (what means): {And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable.} [Quran 2:228]

For more benefit on the rights of spouses towards each other, please refer to Fataawa 85308 and 83157.

It may be appropriate to refer you to some Fataawa that prove that Islam is the true religion, so please refer to Fataawa numbers: 86091, 16595, 88906, 173389, 9263.

We also have some Fataawa that clarify the contradictions between the different versions of the Bible, and that Christianity was distorted and tempered with; so please refer to Fataawa 8210, 10326, and 90449.

Allah knows best.
