Seeking protection from evil eye and jealousy

Question:

Can you tell me how to protect myself from evil eye and to avoid being jealous of others (Hasad)? I want to get rid of this habit. What Du'a can I use to refrain from this habit?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. "Evil Eye" is a fact. There is no doubt about that. Muslim reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Indeed Al Ayn (evil eye) is a fact and if anything could get ahead of destiny, Ayn (evil eye) would be that thing" . To get cured from Ayn, Ibn Al-Qayyim suggested the following: ' Abu Dawood reported from Sahl Ibn Hanif that he said: "We passed by some running water. I went into it and had a bath. When I came out I felt a fever. This was reported to the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam). He said: "Tell Abu Thabit to say (Taawuz) (seek refuge with Allah). I said: "And the good Ruqiya'". He replied: Ruqiya is only for curing evil eye a sting or a bite (of a snake)" . To protect or treat oneself from evil eye one should multiply reading Al-Fatiha, Al-Kursi, Al-Muawihat [112-113-114]. Moreover, one could say what the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to say: "I seek refuge with the perfect Words of Allah from all Satans and every despair and from the evil eye..." . He could also say: "I take refuge within Allah's perfect words which no righteous or unrighteous person can transgress, from all the evil that He has created, made and originated. (I take refuge) from the evil that descends from the sky and the evil that rises up to it. (I take refuge) from the evil that is spread on Earth and the evil that springs from her. And I take refuge from the evil of the tribulations of night and day, and the evil of one who visits at night except the one who brings good. O Merciful One" . As for Hassad (envy) it is a bad habit which the Muslim should try to be rid of. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {Or do they envy men (Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and his followers) …}[4: 54]. The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "Do not envy one another and do not hate one another and do not break with one another and remain servants of Allah and Muslim brothers" [Reported by Imam Muslim ].
