Question:

Assalam Alaykom, my question is about taking photos i am getting married in a few months and my future husband will not allown me to take an wedding photos. This is going to cause major problems with the parents because they want photos. is it permissible to take some wedding photos to keep in a album??

Answer:

All Perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as that of his family and all his companions.

Taking these pictures is not allowed for many reasons:

    1) When a woman is married, then her husband's rights take priority over the rights of all people even her parents.  Please refer to Fatwa 85169.

    2) Muslim scholars have different opinions concerning photography, but the opinion of those who prohibit it is considerable. Taking pictures of a woman is very serious, especially if the purpose is to keep them in an album. It is not safe that some people may see them and get tempted. See the details in Fataawa 87765, 87435 and 88306.

We entrust you to try your best to convince your parents kindly and softly using all the lawful means. Seek Allaah's help first and then the help of those who may have influence on them in the hope that they might listen to them.

Finally, Muslims should follow the rulings of Islam in marriage and other matters and should avoid what angers Allaah and displeases Him, so that He would bless them and make their matters easy.

Allaah Knows best.
