Fatwa No: 126158

Question

Slam Alicoum, A Muslim sister went for a scholarship to the UK and failed and the UK government refused to accept her again. Her brain was washed by British people and the church there. She thinks that they are more advance than us and the church board and pop are more nicer and kinder that Muslim Sheikhs. She is emailing the British embassy and American emmbesy to help her. Her friends called and showed us the evidence and told us be careful. She told her friend that she went to a church without telling her father to have some spiritual medication.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

If what you mentioned about that girl is true, then, it confirms the danger of the travelling of the children of Muslims abroad in general, and the girls among them in particular, to study in non-Muslim countries. We and all reformers warned Muslims before and still warn them about that danger. Indeed, the ignorance of religion, along with the multitude of malicious misconceptions (of the enemies of Islam) and prevalence of temptations and lusts always lead to corruption of thought and dissolution of moral character.

Concerning this girl in particular, we remind her guardian of the fact that he would be held responsible for (and questioned about) her before Allaah The Almighty on the Day of Judgment. In this respect, it is narrated on the authority of Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Every one of you is a guardian and responsible for those under his guardianship: the man is a guardian in his house and responsible for those under his guardianship…" [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] It is further narrated on the authority of Anas that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Allaah will ask every guardian (of people) about those whom He put under his guardianship, whether he has maintained or wasted them." [An-Nasaa’i and Ibn Hibbaan]

Therefore, the guardian of that girl is obliged to endeavor to rescue her from that temptation and return her to her country, and seek to teach her the affairs of her religion, and remove the misconceptions that might have been established in her mind about Islam and Muslims.

However, if he has no knowledge (to enable him to do so), he should entrust that girl to some religious scholars to show her the truth, and warn her of the danger of that which she has done, which might lead her to apostasy which will lead to her loss in this world and the hereafter. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And whoever of you reverts from his religion [to disbelief] and dies while he is a disbeliever - for those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the hereafter, and those are the companions of the Fire, they will abide therein eternally.}[Quran 2:217] For more benefit, refer to Fataawa 88668 and 87672.

Finally, we recommend that this process be done with the utmost degree of kindness and leniency, for it is upon the assumption of the harshness of Muslim scholars that the malicious misconception was established in her mind.

Allaah Knows best.
