Question

Salam alaikum, Muslimas here in Vienna get insulted almost on daily basis. Just a few days ago a woman on purpose said aloude: "That one can dress so ugly on purpose!" I was wearing a very long skirt and a very wide cardigan and hijab alhamdulillah so that one cannot see my body figure. I pretended not to hear her and smiled slightly thinking of the kuffar's punishment on the Day of Judgment, but what i would like to know is: will there also be retaliation between the kuffar and muslims on the Day of Judgment. Will Muslims get the good deeds of the Kuffar who abused and insulted them during their lifetime? Or not because the good deeds of the Kuffar are in vain? Salam alaikum, Nuha

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Allaah is The Most Just and He does not wrong people in anything. Hence, if a Muslim is patient with the harm caused to him by the disbelievers, then he gets a great reward from Allaah; Allaah Says (what means): {Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account [i.e. limit].}[Quran 39:10]

As regards the disbeliever, even though he does not have a good deed to be rewarded with in the Hereafter, as Allaah Says (what means): {And We will approach [i.e. regard] what they have done of deeds and make them as dust dispersed.}[Quran 25:23], he will still be punished and his sin will be multiplied because of the harm that he inflicted on the Muslims either by words or by actions.

On the other hand, Allaah will reward the person who is patient with a complete reward and the good end will be for the Muslim in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. Allaah Says (what means): {And if you are patient and fear Allaah, their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allaah is encompassing of what they do.}[Quran 3:120]

Also, the disbeliever may bear the sins of the people whom he wronged as he has no good deeds to compensate the Muslim for his right.

Indeed, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam,  informed us that legal retribution on the Day of Judgment will be by good deeds and bad deeds; when the good deeds of the oppressor are finished, he will be loaded with the sins of the person whom he had wronged and so, he will be thrown into Hellfire.

Besides, Abu Burdah narrated from his father that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam,  said: "On the Day of Judgment, people from among the Muslims would come with as heavy sins as mountains, but Allaah will forgive their sins and would put them over the Jews and Christians.” [Muslim]

So, dear Sister, you should take it easy and continue being steadfast in your religion.  You should not grieve or feel sorrow for the harm that you encounter in this regard, because a Muslim is tested according to how strong he/she is in his/her religion; the greatness of the reward stems from the greatness of the affliction. Know that Allaah will not cause your reward to be lost. Allaah Says (what means): {Indeed, he who fears Allaah and is patient, then indeed, Allaah does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good.”}[Quran 12:90]

Allaah Knows best.
