Question

It is mentioned in a hadith that Nabi (sallalaahu alayhi wassallam) said, ” When a female child is born, Allah Ta’ala sends His angels to that house. They come to the dwellers of the house and pray that peace may be upon them, The angels then cover the newly born girl in the shadow of their wings and caressing the head of the baby with their hands they say that, this is a weak and frail person, whoever will bear the responsibility of cherishing her will go on having the blessing of Allah Ta’ala as long as that person remains alive.” ( Al-Mojam al – Saghir li Tabrani). Is this hadith authentic or not ?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

At-Tabaraani said in Al-Mu‘jam As-Sagheer following this Hadeeth: “These Ahaadeeth from  Nubayt were not reported except with this chain of narrators, which was only narrated by his son.” [End of quote]

Also, the book entitled Al-Fawaa'id Al-Muntakhabah As-Sihaah wal-Gharaa’ib, reads: Shaykh Imaam Abu Bakr Al-Khateeb said: “This is a Ghareeb Hadeeth (i.e.  it is conveyed by only one narrator) by Nubayt ibn Shareet Al-Ashja‘i from the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam; I do not know that anybody narrated this from him except his son, and we have not written it down except in this form.” [End of quote]

The reviser of this book, Dr. Sa‘ood ibn ‘Eed ibn Al-Jarboo‘i, classified it as Dha‘eef (weak) in his Master’s dissertation, saying: “It is not an authentic Hadeeth; its chain of narrators includes Ahmad ibn Is-haaq who is a liar, as he narrated nonsensical things from his forefathers. His father and grandfather are unknown (p. 546); refer also to Majma‘ Az-Zawaaid (i, 146, and viii., 156).”

Allaah Knows best.
