Question

What is the ruling on listening to the Quran while one is in the state of Janaabah?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for the one in the state of Janaabah to listen to the Quran and recite it in his heart or whisper it quietly without hearing his own voice, as long as his hearing is fine and there is nothing preventing him from it.  The well-versed scholar Ahmad ibn Qaasim Al-‘Abbaadi said:

It is permissible for the one in the state of Janaabah to recite the Quran in his heart, and there is no harm in that. He also can move his lips and whisper it without being able to hear his own voice. Moreover, he can look at the Mus-haf or read the verses whose recitation was abrogated, and the Qudsi Ahadeeth.

Allaah Knows best.
