No excuse for blasphemy
Fatwa No: 33915

Question

What is the ruling on someone who commits blasphemy, and when condemned, he swears that he uttered it out of anger and that has great faith in Allaah The Almighty?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Anyone who commits blasphemy becomes an apostate and he is considered out of the fold of Islam. This is the opinion of the consensus of the scholars. He cannot be excused for being ignorant or angry. Ibn Taymiyyah said no one can commit blasphemy out of doubt or desire; it is committed out of rebellion against  Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. These words emanate from a satanic soul replete with anger or from a foolish person who does not revere Allaah The Almighty.

Allaah Knows best.
