Prayed With a Little Hole in His Trousers
Fatwa No: 394414

Question

May you all be blessed, I prayed Salatul Asr and realised afterwards that I had prayed in my trousers which have a small rip in them that is about the size of a corn kernel, which I think exposes an area of the thigh. I knew about it before, but had forgotten about it when I wore them on this occasion. Should I repeat the prayer from that day, even though I had genuinely forgotten about the hole on them? Many thanks, Jazaakumullahu khayra

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

The tiny hole in your trousers exposes a little bit of your ‘Awrah, and this does not invalidate your prayers, and you do not have to redo it.

Ibn Qudaamah said:

"If a little bit of the ‘Awrah becomes uncovered, then this does not invalidate the prayer. The definition of what is 'a lot' is that which is offensive to look at, and in this case, there is no differentiation between the private parts and other parts of the ‘Awrah. What is considered as 'little' is that which is not offensive to see, and the judge in this regard depends on what is customary to be accepted (by one whose morals are upright)."

Allah knows best.
