Fatwa No: 405760

Question

Is dry blood clot that is formed after a wound pure or not?, I see fatwa here that it dont have to be removed. but is it pure?, Or still impure like most blood?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that none is worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, is His slave and messenger.

If you are referring to clotted blood, then you should know that the blood coming out of the wound is considered ritually impure, whether clotted or not. However, if the amount of blood is commonly regarded as insignificant, it is (Islamically) pardoned. Ibn Taymiyyah explained: “An insignificant amount of Mathiyy (pre-ejaculatory fluid) is pardoned, and so is an insignificant amount of blood and other discharges linked to it like purulent fluid and pus. An insignificant amount is that which does not cause feelings of disgust to the person.” [Sharh Al-‘Umdah]
