Fatwa No: 408448

Question

Can i sell trees used for timber abd electricity poles in my country to non muslims? In case of timber it's used in building houses and the poles for electricity will i be held accountable for what the sins they commit in their houses or the electricity they receive through the poles.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing wrong in selling trees that are used for timber and electricity poles, even if the sale is to non-Muslims, as there is no direct or intentional help in what is forbidden. In principle, this is permissible as Allah Says (what means): {But Allah has permitted trade.} [Quran 2: 275]

Moreover, ‘Aa’ishah narrated that the Prophet bought food from a Jew with a delayed payment (on credit), and gave him his iron shield as mortgage. [Al-Bukhaari]

Ibn Hajar said: “It is permissible to deal with the non-Muslims in matters that are not certain (confirmed) to be forbidden to deal with.
