Question

Is it haram to sell women's accessories such as lipsticks, makeup, hair clip knowing most likely women will wear it on public to look beautiful or she will show her hair while wearing the hair clip? Can I sell things to people with different religious bc they won't cover their hair also will wear makeup in public?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing wrong with selling makeup and the like to women, whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims, unless it is known that the one who buys it wants to use it in what is forbidden.

As for the mere possibility that these things may be used in a forbidden manner, then this does not prevent from selling them, and whoever uses them for unlawful purposes after that, then the sin falls upon him only. Allah Says (what means): {… and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another.} [Quran 6:164]

The Fiqh Encyclopedia reads about the sale of grapes with the possibility of making wine from it and using it in a forbidden way:

If the seller does not know the condition of the buyer, or that the buyer is one who makes vinegar and wine together, or that the seller doubts about his case, or just has an illusion about him, then the view of the majority of the scholars is that it is permissible, as explicitly stated by the Hanafi and Hanbali Schools. Nonetheless, the view of the Shaafi’i School is that the sale when in doubt or when one has an illusion then it is disliked.” [End of quote]

Allah knows best.
