Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

This Hadith was reported in a story that was mentioned in several Hadith sources, for example al-Hakim narrated in al-Mustadrak - and he graded it as Sahih (authentic) and al-Dhahabi agreed with him, on the authority of Abu Noufal bin Abi Aqrab, may Alllaah have mercy upon him, on the authority of his father, who said: Lahab Ibn Abu Lahab used to insult the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa slam, then the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallm, said: “O Allah, let one of your dogs overcome him”, (اللَّهُمَّ سَلِّطْ عَلَيْهِ كَلْبَكَ); so he [Lahab Ibn Abu Lahab] went out in a caravan to the Levant, and he stayed at a place and said: “I fear the supplication of Muhammad ”. They told him not to fear, and they put their belongings around him and guarded him, then a lion came and snatched him and took him away.”

It was also narrated by Abu Na’eem in Dala'il an-Nubuwwa, may Allaah have mercy upon him, with its chain of narration - in a long story - and in which the Messenger of Allah said: “O Allah, send one of your dogs against him.” (اللَّهُمَّ ابْعَثْ عَلَيْهِ كَلْبًا مِنْ كِلَابِكَ).
Allah knows best.
