Naming a Child Arham or Kibria Fatwa No: 532687
- Fatwa Date:3-6-2026
Can i keep my son name "Arham Kibria" according to the islamic jurisprudence and arabic meaning
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
From an Islamic perspective, there is no issue with naming a child Arham. Linguistically, it is a comparative form that conveys the meaning of "more merciful," similar in structure to names such as Ahmad and Akram.
As for Kibriya, if by it you intend Al-Kibriya (Majesty or Grandeur), then it is not an appropriate name to give a child. Moreover, there is no need to resort to uncommon or difficult names when there are many clear, meaningful, and praiseworthy names available.
Therefore, we advise choosing names such as Abdullah, Ahmad, or other similar names that carry good meanings and are well established in Islamic tradition.
