Question

What are the favorite foods, clothes, perfume, etc. of our Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds.  I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The Prophet loved to eat meat. Imaam Tirmithi narrates in his book "Shamail at-Tirmithi (Merits of the Prophet)" from Jaabir ibn 'Abdullaah who said, 'The Prophet came to us in our house, we slaughtered a sheep in his honor. Then he said: "More likely they knew that we love meat". The most beloved part to him from a slaughtered animal was its arm and back. Abu Rafi narrated, 'It seems that the Prophet was fond to eat the arm". [Ahmad and Abu Daawood]

'Abdullaah ibn Ja'far narrated: 'I heard the Prophet saying: "The best meat is the meat of the back (the meat that is along the backbone of the animal)". [Ahmad, Ibn Maajah and al-Haakim]

The Prophet also liked pumpkin. Anas said, "I went with Messenger of Allaah to eat some food which a tailor made for him. He served barley, bread and soup with pumpkin in it. I saw the Messenger of Allaah going after the pumpkin around the dish, so I have always liked pumpkin since that day". [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. In the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad it is narrated that the Prophet was fond of pumpkin. Thareed, a dish made of meat and bread also appealed to him. It was not his habit to point out faults in food; if it pleased him, he ate it, otherwise he left it. [Al-Bukhari and others]

As for his garments, the Prophet used to give priority to white garments over other colors. He also said: "Wear your white garments, for they are among your best garments, and shroud your dead in them". [Ahmad, Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi and Al-Nasaa'i] It is also narrated from Anas he said that the most beloved garment to the Prophet to wear was the Hibrah (a kind of Yemeni cloth). [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] At-Tirmithi narrates from Umm Salamah that she said, 'The shirt was among the most beloved garments to the Prophet '. As for perfumes, the most beloved perfume to him was musk. He said: "Musk is the best of your perfumes". [At-Tirmithi]

Allaah Knows best.
