Question

Even though play station is Haram, are we allowed to sell it and not use the money but put it in Sadaqa?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Play station is forbidden because it includes music and pictures of naked people. So, it is unlawful to buy it or sell it even if the person intends to give its price as alms. Ahmad reported from Ibn Abbas that the Prophet said: “Allah Cursed Jews, because He Prohibited animal fat to them. So, they sold it and consumed its price. Indeed, when Allah forbids something on some people He forbids its price also” [correct Hadith according to Sheikh al-Arnaoot ]. Narrated Abdullah Ibn Masoud : 'Umar was told that Samurah Ibn Jundub sold some alcohol, he said: ‘May Allah fight Samurah didn't he know that the Prophet said: “Allah Cursed the Jews for when He Prohibited animal fat to them, they embellished it and sold it” [Imams Al-Bukhari and Muslim ].

Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: “This implies that when is thing is unlawful its price is also unlawful as well”.

Allah knows best.
