Question

Could you send me a short note on Allah is Merciful with references from the Qur'an.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. "Al-Rahman and Al-Rahim" (The most Merciful and the most Benevolent) are among the sublime Names of Allah and they are repeated by the Muslim 34 times daily; during the obligatory prayers, as there are 17 Raka'h in the daily prayers and the Muslim utters these Two Names twice in every Raka'h one in the Basmala and the other in the Fatiha. The most Merciful and the most Benevolent are derived from the sublime Mercy and Benevolence. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {…And He is Ever Most Merciful to the believers.}[33: 43]. Allah also Says (interpretation of meaning): {…Surely, Allâh's Mercy is (ever) near unto the gooddoers.}[7: 56]. Anyone who says La Ilaha Illa Allah is a Muhsin, so the Blessing of Allah gets near to him. Allah also Says (interpretation of meaning): {Say: "O 'Ibâdî (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allâh, verily Allâh forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.}[39: 53]. This one for the person who repents, that is why Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {… and My Mercy embraces all things. That (Mercy) I shall ordain for those who are the Muttaqûn (pious), and give Zakât; and those who believe in Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs and revelations, etc.);}[7: 156], i.e. those who repent and do not despair. Qatada said: 'in this worldly life, Allah spreads His Blessing on both the good and the bad people. But in the Hereafter this Blessing is limited to the good people only' . Allah also Says (interpretation of meaning): {…"Our Lord! You comprehend all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and save them from the torment of the blazing Fire! }[40: 7]. This means Your Blessing can engulf all their sins and Your Knowledge surrounds all their deeds, words, movements, … etc. Allah knows best.
