Removed hair from arm pits while in Ihram
Fatwa No: 86762

Question

I'm working in Saudi Arabia. Recently when I was going for Umrah a friend told me to remove the hair from my armpits. I immediately did so, but later I realised that I made a mistake of removing the hair because I was already in Ihram. Please tell me what I should do?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. If you removed your hair after wearing the clothes of Ihram but before establishing the intention of entering in the state of Ihram, then there is no harm. If you did so after declaring the intention of Ihram then you have to perform one of the acts of expiations mentioned in the Hadith of Ka'b Bin 'Ujrah . He said, 'Allah's Apostle stood beside me at Al-Hudaibiya and the lice were falling from my head in great number. He asked me,' "Have your lice troubled you?" I replied in the affirmative. He ordered me to get my head shaved. The Prophet then ordered me either to fast three days, or to feed six poor persons with one Faraq (three Sas) of dates, or to slaughter a sheep, etc. (sacrifice) whatever was available. Allah knows best.
