Question

What is the ruling on some people say when Aadam thrown out of the Jannah to the world he was asking Allaah to pardon his sins and when Allaah didn't pardon his sins Aadam said with the name of Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, pardon my sins then only Allaah pardon his sins kindly clarify is there any Hadeeth support for this sayings?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Perhaps the questioner means the weak narration which is reported from At-Tabraani and Al-Haakim with the wording, "When Aadam , committed his sin, he said, ‘O Lord! I ask You by virtue of Muhammad to forgive me.’ Allaah said, ‘O Aadam! How do you know of Muhammad when I have not yet created him?’ He said, ‘O Lord! When You created me with Your hand, and breathed into me the soul that You created, I raised my head and saw written on the pillars of the Throne, Laa ilaaha illallaah Muhammad Rasoolullaah (There is no god worthy of worship except Allaah alone, Muhammad is the messenger of Allaah). Then I knew that You would not mention in conjunction with Your name anyone but the most beloved of Your creation to You.’ Allaah said, ‘You have spoken the truth, O Aadam. He is indeed the most beloved of My creation to Me. Pray to me by virtue of Him, for I have forgiven you. Were it not for Muhammad, I would not have created you.”

The narration is weak as classified by Imaam Ibn Katheer and others. Some other scholars like Imaam Ath-Thahabi and Shaykh Al-Albaani declared that it is fabricated.

We draw the attention of the questioner that the original text of this weak narration does not state that Aadam , begged pardon from Allaah and He did not grant it, and then he asked forgiveness by virtue of Muhammad as stated in the question. Rather the wording of the narration is that he initiated asking pardon by the virtue of Muhammad .

Know that Allaah is the Oft-forgiving and the Oft-Merciful, He forgives any sinner if he asks forgiveness sincerely, how he would not forgive a Prophet?

Allaah knows best.
