The statements of Khawaarij in creed and jurisprudence are not considered
Fatwa No: 91562

Question

Can we take into account the statements of Khawaarij in creed and jurisprudence?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

The statements of Khawaarij in regard to creed and jurisprudence cannot be considered because they have deviated in these matters from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet for instance:

1-     They consider the Muslims who committed major sins as non-Muslims, and they say that they will abide in the Hellfire forever.

2-     They deny intercession.

3-     They consider 'Ali and 'Uthmaan and other companions as non-Muslims.

4-     They deny the possibility of seeing Allaah on the Day of Judgment.

5-     They deny the Siraat [the bridge over Hellfire] and deny passing over it.

6-     They say that it is not an obligation to obey the Prophet in things which he did not convey to us from Allaah, and they say that it is permissible not to abide by his ruling.

7-     They do not take into consideration the confirmed Sunnah which they think contradicts the text of the Quran, like understanding the penalty of theft mentioned in the Quran to be amputating the arm instead of cutting the hand.

8-     They deny Allaah's Attributes that are confirmed by the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet ; this is the view of the late Khawaarij.

9-     They only perform Friday prayer and congregational prayers behind the people who are like them in belief.

10-They deny stoning the adulterer to death.

In addition to this, they have other deviations which contradict the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet .

So after all this, how could it be possible to say that we may take into consideration their views and statements in religious matters? Indeed it is confirmed that the scholars said: 'This knowledge is religion, so look from whom you take your religion.'

Allaah Knows best.
