Question

Does Islam establish it that Witches, Wizards, Evil Spirit and Jinns can change one Destiny or has the power inflict pains or make one succesful in life? If yes, how can one destroy their spells? Please, this has cause many troubles in our family I need fast approach to this.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Islam does not approve of anyone being able to change the Decree of Allaah, and no one can change anything Allaah Has Decreed. The Prophet said: "Know that if the whole world gathered together to benefit you, they could not do so except by that which Allaah has destined for you; and if they gathered together to harm you, they could not do so except by that which Allaah has destined for you. The pens have been raised and the sheets have dried” (Which means everything has already been predestined by Allaah). [At-Tirmithi]

Therefore, if the whole world gathers to prevent what Allaah Has Predestined to happen, they could not do so, and if the whole world gathers to make something happen which Allaah Has not Predestined to happen, they could not do so as well. However, this does not mean that there is no effect of magic or that it does not harm people. Magic does affect and harm people, but this effect and harm can not take place unless Allaah Had already Predestined it. Allaah Says about the magicians (what means): {But (they) do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allaah.}[Quran 2:102]. If a person is harmed and affected by magic, then this happened because Allaah Had Predestined it for a reason which no one knows but He.

We have already issued Fataawa 87899, 83703 and 84498 clarifying the reality of magic and how to seek treatment from it, so please refer to them.

Finally, we ask Allaah to remove from you the tricks of the magicians which affected you.

Allaah Knows best.
