Gases While Fasting

Question:

I suffer from excessive gas, and they increase when I fast. What could be the problem, and how do I treat it?
Answer:
Assalaamu ‘Alaykum, respected brother.
Many different things could lead to the increase of gases. One of which is having irritable bowel syndrome, which is a common problem that is not due to a specific organic defect or malfunction.
Psychological pressures also play a strong role in having such symptoms. Chronic stomach infections may also produce such symptoms, which may result in an increase in heartburn.
Amoeba or giardia lamblia may cause similar symptoms, and therefore, you must get a stool test done to make sure you do not have either of them.
In most cases, having irritable bowel syndrome is the cause of such symptoms, and treating it depends on the type of medication you take, like Disflatyle, Duspataline or Librax.
Finally, we recommend that you get a speculum test done, in order to know what is causing this excessive heartburn.
