Historians have agreed to call the military expedition led by the Prophet, , himself as a Ghazwah (invasion), whether he participated in the fighting or not. They also call the military expedition that he commanded, but did not lead in person, a Sariyyah (platoon). During these Sariyyahs, the Prophet, , appointed many Companions to lead the Muslim army and entrusted the Muslim flags to them to carry.

Here are some of them, may Allah be pleased with them, who were neither from the Muhaajiroon (Muslims who migrated to Madeenah) nor the Ansaar (Muslim residents from Madeenah who supported the Prophet ).

1. Ibn Abi Al'Awjaa', may Allah be pleased with him:

He was at the head of the platoon which the Prophet, , sent to Bani Saleem in Thul Hijjah in seven A.H. and the members of this platoon all died as martyrs. His name is Al-Akhram ibn Abi Al-'Awjaa'.

2. Abu 'Aamir Al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him:

His name is 'Ubayd ibn Sulaym Al-Ash'ari, and he was one of the great Companions. The Prophet, , sent him in the wake of those who went to Awtaas, and he caught them on the way and fought against them until he was thrown by an arrow and died, before Abu Moosa Al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, took the flag and defeated them. The Prophet, , asked Allah The Almighty to forgive him after his martyrdom.


3. 'Uyaynah ibn Hisn Al-Fazaari:

He accepted Islam after the Conquest of Makkah or before it. He witnessed Hunayn and Taa'if, and he was from those whose hearts were inclined to Islam by the Prophet, . The Prophet, , sent him to Bani Tameem. He was from among the uncouth Arab Bedouins. He apostatized after the death of the Prophet, , and followed Tulayhah Al-Asadi and fought with him. He was then captured and brought to Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and came back to Islam. 'Uthmaan, may Allah be pleased with him, married his daughter, and he is the uncle of Al-Hurr ibn Qays, who was a righteous person and a relative of 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him.

4. 'Alqamah ibn Mujazziz Al-Mudliji, may Allah be pleased with him:

He is one of the great Companions. The Prophet, , appointed as a leader of a platoon to Habashah (Ethiopia) in 9 A.H. 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, also appointed him as a leader of the army to Ethiopia, where they all died. It is narrated that he also witnessed Al-Yarmook, and Al-Jaabiyah. He was also appointed by 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, as the leader of the war in Palestine.

5. Adh-Dhahhaak ibn Sufyaan Al-Kilaabi, may Allah be pleased with him:

He is nicknamed Abu Sa'eed. He accepted Islam and accompanied the Prophet, . He inhabited thesemi-desert of Madeenah. The Prophet, , appointed him as the emir of those who accepted Islam from his people, and he wrote to him to bequeath the wife of Ushaym Adh-Dhibaabi from the blood money of her husband. He used to guard the Prophet, , with his sword. He was so brave that he was counted as one hundred brave horsemen. When the Prophet, , went to conquer Makkah, he appointed him as the leader of Bani Saleem. The Prophet, , also appointed him as the leader of one of the platoons.
