Hajj and Good Morals‎

Hajj and Good Morals‎

Hajj is the largest Islamic gathering that is attended by Muslims from all over the world at a specified period of time and in a specific place. Hajj is considered a religious school where pilgrims learn many matters related to the religion and Sharee’ah (Islamic law). ‎

‎Pilgrims acquire virtuous morals when they perform the rites of Hajj according to the Sunnah (tradition) of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) as they follow the good morals of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) who said: "Verily, I was sent to perfect good morals," and "Take your rites from me."‎

‎The following are some of the best virtuous morals that pilgrims acquire during Hajj:‎

  1. Deepening feelings of brotherhood ‎despite the shortness of time: Pilgrims behave as if they were blood brothers, as they cooperate together, show solidarity and altruism with each other despite their different nationalities and homelands. This is out of the wisdom of Allah The Almighty in legislating acts of worship and the great emotional impact that they leave on the soul, as Allah The Almighty casts love, kindness and mercy into the hearts of pilgrims.
  2. Advising every Muslim, as the religion is based on offering sincere advice: If a pilgrim sees his fellow Muslim making a mistake or committing a sin or a violation of Sharee’ah (Islamic law), he should advise him and tell him the right thing to do. This is especially true if this person was performing the rites of Hajj and ‘Umrah, so that his rites would be as perfect as possible and he would receive the due reward.
  3. Avoiding sexual relations, disobedience and having disputes during Hajj, as the accepted Hajj is that which does not include any of the abovementioned actions and all pilgrims want their Hajj to be accepted.
  4. Showing submission and humility to Allah The Almighty: This should be the behavior of Muslims when performing acts of worship, for Muslims should not be arrogant or conceited. They should not consider their act of worship to be a favor to Allah The Almighty, as He, The Exalted, is the One Who bestows favors upon us, the greatest of which is that He guided us to this true religion.
  5. Showing solidarity and equality: These are among the sublime morals among Muslims. Pilgrims help the needy ones among them who come from faraway countries; these are travelers who deserve charity and the reward of this charity is great. There are many pilgrims who come from poor countries and look for the help of Allah The Almighty through their fellow pilgrims who stand united with them. Indeed, Allah The Almighty helps His slave as long as he helps his brother.
  6. Altruism: This is the best quality that a Muslim can acquire, as Allah The Almighty Says of certain believers (what means): {but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation.} [Quran 59: 9] Pilgrims show altruism to each other with regard to food, drink, clothing and so on. This personifies the fact that Muslims are like one body and this is by virtue of the favor of Allah The Almighty and Islam, as Allah The Almighty and the teachings of Islam place compassion and mercy among Muslims. All the feelings of cooperation, affection, solidarity and brotherhood among Muslims are a result of the Islamic gatherings where Muslims meet every day, week or year. Indeed, Allah The Almighty has spoken the truth when He Says (what means): {The believers are but brothers} [Quran 49: 10]
