Praising the Muhaajiroon Because of their Fine Characteristics

Monday 29/03/2010

The following are the most important characteristics of the Muhaajiroon (emigrants):

1. Sincerity: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] approval and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.} [Quran 59:8] {Seeking bounty from Allah and [His] approval} means that they were only expelled from their homes because they wanted to be truly devoted to Allah The Almighty and sought His bounty and pleasure.

2. Patience: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {And those who emigrated for [the Cause of] Allah after they had been wronged - We will surely settle them in this world in a good place; but the reward of the Hereafter is greater, if only they could know. [They are] those who endured patiently and upon their Lord relied.} [Quran 16:41-42]

3. Truthfulness: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] approval and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.} [Quran 59:8] Al-Baghawi may Allaah have mercy upon him interpreted the part that reads, {Those are the truthful} saying that it means “those who are truthful regarding their faith.”

4. Jihaad and Sacrifice: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {The ones who have believed, emigrated and striven in the Cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. And it is those who are the attainers [of success].} [Quran 9:20] It is worth noting that sacrifice is always connected to Jihaad, as there is no Jihaad without sacrifice.

5. Their support for Allah The Almighty and His Messenger sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ): Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {And supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful} [Quran 59:8]

6. Reliance on Allah The Almighty: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {[They are] those who endured patiently and upon their Lord relied.} [Quran 16:41, 42]

7. Hoping for the Mercy of Allah The Almighty: {Verily, those who have believed, and those who have emigrated [for Allah's religion] and have striven hard in the Way of Allah, all these hope for Allah's Mercy. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.} [Quran 2:218] Allah The Almighty praised them but He Says that they “Hope”, because no one in this world knows for sure that he will be admitted to Paradise even if he worshipped Allah The Almighty as perfectly as possible. There are two reasons for this: the first is that no one knows what would be his last deeds and the second is to avoid reliance on his deeds. These people had been forgiven by Allah The Almighty, yet, they hoped for the mercy of Allah The Almighty, which was proof of their strong Faith.

8. Following the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) during hardships: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Allah has already forgiven the Prophet and the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar who followed him in the hour of difficulty after the hearts of a party of them had almost inclined [to doubt], and then He forgave them. Indeed, He was to them Kind and Merciful.} [Quran 9:117] This verse was revealed regarding the Battle of Tabook. Qataadah may Allaah have mercy upon him said, “They marched towards Ash-Shaam [greater Syria] in the year of Tabook when the weather was extremely hot, and they were very exhausted to the extent that it was mentioned that two men would share a single dried date. One would suck it and then drink water and then give it to his companion to do the same. Hence, Allah The Almighty forgave them, and made them return safely from their battle.”

9. Precedence in Faith and Deeds entitles one to leadership: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhaajiroon and the Ansaar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.} [Quran 9:100]
Ar-Raazi may Allaah have mercy upon him said, “Precedence entails virtue, and the fact that they were the early people to do these things necessitates that they are to be followed by others. This also proves that the Muhaajiroon are the leading Muslims and masters of all Muslims.”

10. Success: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {The ones who have believed, emigrated and striven in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. And it is those who are the attainers [of success].} [Quran 9:20] Abu As-Su‘ood may Allaah have mercy upon him said in his book of Tafseer (exegesis), “{it is those who are the attainers [of success]} means that they are the attainers of the ultimate and great success, to the extent that the success of others would be nothing in comparison to theirs.”

11. Faith: Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah and those who gave shelter and aided - it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.} [Quran 8:74]
