Supporting Him

Tuesday 30/03/2010

True love for the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), implies supporting him, honoring and respecting him, as Allah The Exalted Says (what means):

·        {Indeed, We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner. That you [people] may believe in Allah and His Messenger and honor him and respect the Prophet...} [Quran 48:8-9]
·        {So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him - it is those who will be the successful.} [Quran 7:157]
Commenting on the meaning of (what means): {honor him}, Ibn Katheer may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said it means to exalt him. Al-Baghawi may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned that it means to support and make him victorious. The meaning of (what means):{respect the Prophet} it is to venerate and respect him.

Allah The Exalted curses a person who abuses Him or His Messenger, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ). Allah The Almighty Says (what means):
·        {Indeed, those who abuse Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment.} [Quran 33:57]
·        {And he whom Allah curses - never will you find for him a helper.} [Quran 4:52]

There is no doubt that a person who mocks the Prophet,  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ), deserves the curse of Allah The Almighty, and He has indeed cursed such a person: {And he whom Allah curses, never will you find for him a helper.}

If the abuser is a Muslim, he becomes an apostate as soon as he abuses the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and even if he repents, Allah The Almighty will not accept his repentance. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Say, “Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?” Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals.} [Quran 9:65-66] According to the preponderant opinion, he must be killed without being asked to repent.

If the abuser is a person who has a peace treaty with the Muslims, his covenant is thereby broken and he is to be killed. It is impermissible to treat him kindly or to ransom him. Rather, he is to be killed under all circumstances.

If the abuser repents, the preponderant view is that he is still to be killed, even if he is a Muslim. His repentance is not accepted. As for the forgiveness of Allah The Exalted for that person, the matter is up to Allah The Almighty.

In his book As-Saarim Al-Maslool ‘Ala Shaatim Ar-Rasool sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), Shaykh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned this. He said,

“I have classified it into four issues:
The First Issue: The abuser is to be killed, whether he is a Muslim or a disbeliever.
The Second Issue: The abuser must be killed even if he is a Thimmi [a non Muslim living under the protection of the Musilms in an Islamic state]. It is not permissible to treat him kindly or to ransom him.
The Third Issue: Concerns the Sharee'ah ruling on the abuser when he repents and, likewise, if the disbelieving abuser converts to Islam.
The Fourth Issue: It concerns distinguishing between what is considered abuse and what is not and the difference between the latter and that which leads to disbelief.”

Indeed, Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him provided an abundant answer.

Allah The Exalted promised those who fulfill the rights of the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), with success, salvation and guidance, for He Says (what means): {But My Mercy encompasses all things. So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give Zakah and those who believe in Our verses - Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So, they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him - it is those who will be the successful. Say, [O Muhammad], “O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death.” So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided.} [Quran 7:156-158]

Allah The Exalted sent this noble Prophet as a mercy to the worlds, as Allah The Exalted Says (what means):{And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.} [Quran 21:107] He made him the seal of the prophets and messengers, may Allah exalt their mention. He Says (what means): {Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and last of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.} [Quran 33:40] There will be no prophets after him. He was the caller to all that is good and a warner against all that is evil for both the Jinn and humans. Allah The Exalted Says (what means):
·        {O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And one who invites to Allah, by His permission, and an illuminating lamp. And give good tidings to the believers that they will have from Allah great bounty. And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites but do not harm them, and rely upon Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.} [Quran 33:45-48]
·        {O People of the Book, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Book and overlooking much. There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book. By which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darknesses into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path.} [Quran 5:15-16]

The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), is a huge bounty from Allah The Almighty upon the believers in particular. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Certainly did Allah confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they had been before in manifest error.} [Quran 3:164]

Allah The Exalted protects him and promises to safeguard him. He Says (what means): {O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.} [Quran 5:67]

Allah The Exalted protects him against the mockers, as He Says (what means): {Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists. Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers, who make [equal] with Allah another deity. But they are going to know. And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say. So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him]. And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty [death].} [Quran 15:94-99]

Respected reader! Be one of those who obey and follow this noble Prophet, and do not support the disbelievers. Rather, you are required to hate them for the sake of Allah, The Lord of the worlds. Moreover, you should not imitate them, as the person who imitates a people is one of them. You are required to make your Prophet, Muhammad, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), victorious by means of following and loving him. Indeed, Allah holds His Prophet victorious and keeps His word high, even if the polytheists, the disbelievers and the hypocrites hate this. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.} [Quran 3:85]  It was narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), said: “By Him in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad [i.e. Allah The Almighty], whosoever of this community, [whether] a Jew or Christian, hears about me and then dies while he has not yet believed in what I was sent with, he will surely be from the dwellers of Hell.” [Muslim]

The message of the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), is comprehensive for humans and Jinn until the Hour appears. For he who harms or insults him, Allah promises punishment in this world and in the Hereafter, as He Says (what means):
·        {Indeed, those who abuse Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment.} [Quran 33:57]
·        {And he whom Allah Curses - never will you find for him a helper.} [Quran 4:52]
