The Miraculousness Of The Quran-II

Monday 05/04/2010

The following four aspects, which are by no means inclusive, are examples proving the miraculousness of the Quran:

The First Aspect: The miracle of eloquence and rhetoric
The eloquence and miraculous composition of the Quran are some aspects of the miracle of the Quran. Allah The Almighty challenged humankind and Jinn to produce something similar, but they failed. Allah The Almighty Says (what means):
  • {Say, “If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants.”} [Quran 17:88]
  • {Or do they say, “He has made it up?” Rather, they do not believe. Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.}[Quran 52:33-34]
After this challenge, nobody came forth, so Allah gave them a wider margin and challenged them to produce ten chapters like it, instead of a whole book. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Or do they say, “He invented it”? Say, “Then bring ten Soorahs like it that have been invented and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides Allah, if you should be truthful.”}[Quran 11:13]
They could not meet this challenge as well. Consequently, Allah gave them a further concession, where He Says (what means): {Or do they say [about the Prophet], “He invented it?” Say, “Then bring forth a Soorah like it and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides Allah, if you should be truthful.”}[Quran 10:38]

Then, Allah The Almighty repeated this challenge in Madeenah after the Hijrah (emigration), as He Says (what means): {And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a Soorah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.}[Quran 2:23-24] His saying (what means):{But if you do not - and you will never be able to}indicates their inability in the past and in the future. Accordingly, the challenge is posed. Allah The Almighty informed His Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), about this fact and ordered him while he was in Makkah to say the verse (what means): {Say, “If mankind and the jinn gathered in order to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants.”}[Quran 17:88]

By saying so, Allah The Almighty challenges all mankind and jinn that they could not produce the like of the Quran, even if they gathered and assisted one another. This challenge is heard by all those who hear the Quran and is known by the common and well-versed people alike. However, no one has risen to this challenge or produced a Soorah like one in the Quran since the commissioning of the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), to this day, and this challenge will continue.

The Quran includes thousands of miracles as it consists of one hundred and fourteen Soorahs. The challenge is posed by just one Soorah, which is the shortest Soorah of the Quran called “Al-Kawthar” which consists of three short Ayahs. It is unanimously agreed that the verses of the Quran are more than six thousand two hundred in number. A similar number of verses to Al-Kawthar, or even a single verse, has the ruling of one Soorah and is therefore valid for the challenge and miracle. Therefore, the Noble Quran is sufficient for all tangible and intangible miracles for those who have a heart and who listen while they are present in mind.

The Second Aspect: Informing about the unseen
One of the miraculous aspects of the Quran is that it includes knowledge of the unseen that Muhammad, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), had no knowledge about and no human could teach him. This clearly proves that the Quran is the Word of Allah The Almighty from whom there is nothing hidden in terms of knowledge, or anything else. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He Knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He Knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.}[Quran 6:59]

Types of information about the Unseen:

First type: The Unseen of the Past
This is found in the wonderful stories and all the incidents of the past that Allah The Almighty tells us about in the Quran.

Second Type: The Unseen of the Present
The Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), was told by Allah The Almighty about unseen things during his time, such as revealing the secrets of the hypocrites, some Muslims committing mistakes and other incidents which no one knew but Allah The Almighty, and which Allah The Almighty then informed His Messenger, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), about.

Third Type: The Unseen of the Future
Allah The Almighty told His Messenger, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), about some matters that had not yet taken place and which then, sure enough, took place as stated. This indicates that the Quran is the Word of Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ), is the Messenger of Allah.

The Third Aspect: The legislative miracle
The Quran brought complete guidance that meets the needs of all people during every time and in every place because it is revealed by The Ever-Knowing Who knows everything. He created humankind and knows what reforms or corrupts man’s life and what benefits or harms him. If He legislates a matter, it is based on the highest degree of wisdom. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted?}[Quran 67:14] This matter is further clarified when we contemplate the conditions of the man-made systems and laws whose inability to tackle human problems and keep up with their condition and time is well manifested. Consequently, its authors keep editing their law. Tomorrow, they might reject what they legislated today because man is subject to defect and making mistakes and ignores the depth of the human self, the future conditions of the human being and what is beneficial for humankind in every time and place.

This is witnessed and a tangible evidence of the inability of all humans to produce systems that would reform people and their manners, and that the Quran is the Words of Allah which is free from every defect. It is more than sufficient to take care of the interests of the slaves of Allah The Almighty and guide them to do all that improves their conditions in the worldly life and the Hereafter if they adhere to it and follow its guidance. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.}[Quran 17:9]
