Death is a reality and rulings cannot be based on dreams

Question

I see my deceased brother in my sleep and he tells me that he did not die. What is your opinion about this?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Death is a fact and there is no doubt about it. The dead have surely died and the living will inevitably die, for Allaah Says to His messenger, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, (what means): {Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die.} [Quran 39:30] Hence, you must get rid of your doubts about your dead brother. It is permissible to relate any pleasing dream you have to someone you trust who is righteous and who may bring you glad tidings when interpreting your vision. However, if what you see causes you to feel troubled, then seek refuge in Allaah The Almighty from the devil and softly blow out moist breath three times on your left side. Finally, it is important to know that no Sharee‘ah ruling can be built on dreams.

Allaah Knows best.
