Question

Assalaamu alaykum. I am a Muslim, and I was using something called subliminal's to get "superpowers", and the way this works is that it uses only your brain to run a command, so it pushes your brain and subconscious mind, and I can almost control smoke, but my question is: is what I am doing haram? Is it possible for the subconscious mind to do this, or am I using jinn and evil stuff to do this without knowing it?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Dear brother, you should shun such nonsense that is closer to magic and has nothing to do with science. It is not unlikely that it is related to the jinn and their tricks, and that the so-called subliminal messaging is one of the Bid‘ahs (dispraised innovations) of philosophers. In his thesis, Mr. Saami Al-Qaddoomi wrote:

"The so-called 'subconscious mind' is considered one of the foundations of this philosophy. Let us read what one of the leading figures of neuro-linguistic programming, Anthony Robbins, wrote about that in his book Unlimited Power ... As for Dr. Joseph Murphy, he says in the introduction to his book The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, 'This miraculous power of the subconscious mind can cure you of illness and give you vitality and strength again.' Dr. Murphy also dedicated a chapter in his book to: how to use the power of the subconscious to achieve wealth. He said in it, 'When you go to bed at night, repeat the word 'rich' quietly and easily while feeling it... and you will be amazed at the results, as you will find wealth rushing to you. This is yet another sign of the extraordinary power of your subconscious mind.'

To those materialists who advocate materialist philosophy, the so-called subconscious mind has become an idol worshipped instead of Allah; they consider it their source of provisions and healing! We ask Allah to safeguard us, bless us with safety and well-being, and make us live on Tawheed (worshiping Allah alone without partners) and die while holding fast onto it. Plato's theory of forms (or ideas) claims that the person has a limited conscious mind and an unlimited unconscious mind that is more powerful and much broader. Likewise is Surrealism, which was influenced by the Freudian school; it has its share in the philosophy of neuro-linguistic programming, as it relies on the powers of the unconscious reality that are latent inside the human self and need to be unleashed and liberated... The concept of the 'subconscious mind' was introduced by the Jewish Austrian scientist Sigmund Freud, who used to say, 'We should destroy all religious beliefs.' ... The books on neuro-linguistic programming claim that the subconscious mind controls all the vital processes and functions of the body and knows the answer to all problems. It is this mind that can make you healthy or sick, rich or poor, happy or wretched. This is clearly reflected in the postulates and philosophy of neuro-linguistic programming, claiming the complete and deterministic dependence on the material means like the ancient philosophers. They claim that the mind and language can work wonders in the person's life and that the subconscious mind is the source of his power." [Al-Haqeeqah Ash-Sharʻiyyah lil-Barmajah Al-Lughawiyyah]

Allah knows best.
