Question

Can i raise my head under the hijab, raising here refers to not the raising of hair as big bun, hair is always below my neck. But the upper part of head is raised by a head band . I usually done this because otherwise my head will look flat under the hijab. Head band will lightly protrude my head of 3cm(measeured accurately). First i use the head band then i wrap my hijab . Will this come under the category in which the prophet says as "heads like the hump of camels", to which extent raising considers to be a camel hump. Plz reply soon, my wedding is quite near

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing wrong for a woman to tie her hair slightly on her head provided it does not resemble the hump of a camel, and this is not included in what is mentioned in the Hadeeth: “…Their heads are like the humps of the Bactrian camel, inclined to one side.” [Muslim]

Because this is about what is placed on the head and it is large and big until it resembles the hump of a camel; this does not happen with something very little, and the Hadeeth does not mean that she does not put anything at all on her head.

An-Nawawi said in Sharh Saheeh Muslim when explaining this Hadeeth: “The meaning of ‘their heads are like the humps of camels’ is that they make their heads look bigger by using veils and turbans which they wrap around the head.” [End of quote]

Al-Humaydi said in Tafseer Ghareeb ma fi as-Saheehayn:

They make their heads look bigger by using veils and turbans, or by joining the hair, [which they wrap around the head] until it looks like the humps of camels in its height.” [End of quote]

Sharh az-Zarqani ‘ala al-Muwatta’ reads:

The resemblance to the humps of camels is by the height of the braids on their heads, and by amassing the small bunches of the hair on the head and making them many until they lean to one side like the humps (of camels).” [End of quote]

Allah knows best.
