He cannot be patient when his wife has her period

Question

My husband gets angry when I am on my period because he wants to have sex. I am having some hormonal problems and my periods have prolonged till 13 days now. He ends up being rude and frustrated. What can I do to please him. Are husbands allowed to mentally torture their wives with this kind of behaviour? There's nothing that I can do.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

The matter of menstruation is from the decree of Allah Almighty, and the woman has nothing to do with it, and she is not blamed if the period of bleeding is prolonged. The fact that the husband needs his wife and is affected by that is normal, but this matter should not be a reason for mistreating you because he is commanded to treat you well in any case.

Allah Almighty says (what means): {And live with them in kindness…} [Quran 04:19]. And your husband can have sexual intercourse without penetration; in Sahih Al-Bukhari, on the authority of 'Aa'aishah she said: “When I was menstruating, the Prophet () would order me to wrap myself up (with an Izar, which is a dress worn below the waist and would start fondling me.” And in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Anas said that among the Jews, when a woman menstruated, they did not eat with her, and they did not live with such in their houses, so the Prophet's companions questioned him, and Allah revealed, {And they ask you about menstruation...} to the end of the verse. [Quran 01:222] The Messenger of Allah : “Do everything else apart from sexual intercourse (with your wives).

So, we advise you to be patient with this dealing with him and to come to an understanding with him in the light of what we have mentioned and be careful to be kind to him and court him until he is satisfied with you. An-Nasaa'i reported in Al-Sunan al-Kubraa from 'Abdullah ibn' Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu' alayhi wa sallam) said: “Shall I not tell you about your men in Paradise?” We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: “The Prophet will be in Paradise, the Siddeeq will be in Paradise, the man who visits his brother who lives far away and visits him only for the sake of Allah will be in Paradise. Shall I not tell you about your women in Paradise?” We said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: “The loving and fertile one who, if she gets angry or is mistreated or her husband gets angry, says, 'Here is my hand in your hand, I shall not sleep until you are pleased.

And do not forget to pray to Allah for your success in gaining His pleasure and to grant him guidance and righteousness.

Allah knows best.
