Sufferer of urine incontinence is allowed to combine two prayers with one Wudhoo’
Fatwa No: 49872

Question

I suffer from urine incontinence and I am physically handicapped. When I combine two prayers, Thuhr (noon) and ‘Asr (afternoon) or Maghrib (sunset) and ‘Isha’ (night), is it enough to perform the two prayers with one Wudhoo’ (ablution)? What should I do with the Jumu‘ah (Friday) prayer, knowing that I go to the prayer before the second azan (call for prayer)?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

When you combine two prayers, Thuhr and ‘Asr or Maghrib and ‘Isha’ , in advance or deferred, it is enough to perform the two prayers with one Wudhoo’. In Al-Mughni, Ibn Qudaamah said: "It is permissible for a woman experiencing vaginal bleeding outside the menstrual period to combine two prayers with one Wudhoo’. Others who have similar excuses are of the same ruling."

Ash-Shawkani said: "They (a woman experiencing vaginal bleeding and a sufferer of urine incontinence) are permitted to combine two prayers, whether in advance or deferred, with only one Wudhoo’.

On Friday, you are required to make Wudhoo’ for the Friday prayer when its prescribed fixed time is due. That time starts from noon according to the preponderant opinion. This is easy Allaah willing. When the time of prayer becomes due while you are in the Masjid, you should go out, make Wudhoo’ and then return to your place. You are blameless, in the Sharee'ah, for delaying the prayer for a period after making Wudhoo’. Ibn Qudaamah said:

If one entered the prayer after Wudhoo’ or delayed it (the prayer) for something related to prayer, such as wearing a garment and waiting for the congregational prayer, or something not related to prayer – provided that he is certain that he has not released any urine – is blameless.

Allaah Knows best.
