Explanation of Hadith about woman's hurting her husband
Fatwa No: 82045

Question

I came across this Hadith, you could please explain what it means? Narrated Mu'adh Ibn Jabal (number 960) The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that no woman annoyed her husband in this world without his wife among the large-eyed maidens saying, "You must not annoy him. Allah curses you! He is only a passing guest with you and is about to leave you to come to us." Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a gharib tradition.

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Muadh's Hadeeth or at least the narration I came to know is as follows: "Everytime a woman hurts or annoys her husband in This Life, his Houriaa wife (women with wide lovely eyes, wives in Paradise for the pious men) says: do not hurt him, may Allah curse you he is but an outsider in your house who will soon leave you for us" (Ibn Majah and Ahmad and it is a sound Hadeeth). This Hadeeth includes prohibition and a rebuke against harming the husbands or disobeying them because Allah has given the husbands explicit rights over their wives. There are many conducts that could be considered as bad acts from the wives towards their husbands such as: leaving home without his permission, permitting a person (whom the husband dislikes) to enter his house, refusing intimate relations with him.... etc. The Hadeeth mentions also AL HOOR AL'EEN (women in Paradise with lovely wide eyes who will be the wives of pious men) who are from The Unseen which Allah and His Prophet have made known. Muslims must believe in their existence as they must believe that these women are awaiting their husbands and are cursing any woman who hurts them in This Life as mentioned by the Prophet.
And Allah knows Best.
