Question

My parents are not happy with my husband because he doesn't earn. They are asking me to divorce him. If I don't listen to them am I being disobedient? I tried explaining to my dad, but he says I should divorce him. I don't want to leave my husband and I have 2 small children.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

A husband's being jobless or having no source to earn livelihood does not constitute a legal reason to ask for divorce, as long as he satisfies his wife's material and emotional rights. So, if your husband spends on you, then asking divorce is forbidden. The Prophet said: “Any woman who asks her husband for divorce without a genuine reason, the fragrance of Paradise will be forbidden to her.” [Ahmad, At-Tirmithi, Abu Daawood and Ibn Maajah]

Since asking for divorce without a good reason is forbidden, it is forbidden for you to demand divorce without a reason.
Furthermore, if your parents ask you to divorce him seriously, you should not obey them since a Muslim should not obey someone whose obedience constitutes a form of disobedience to Allah. Obedience to them is restricted to good deeds.
Here, we say that your parents may be included under the ruling stated in the Prophetic Hadeeth: “Whoever spoils a women's relationship with her husband or a slave with his master is not one of us.” [Ahmad and Abu Dawood] But, if your husband cannot maintain you financially and also you don't have money to fulfill your needs, and your father maintains you, then it is permitted for you to demand divorce if there is some interest. This last case is legal, especially if it is done according to your father's evaluation of the case.

Allah knows best.
