Question

I want to ask a question regarding cleaning impurity. When there is impurity on the body in a place where water cannot reach, and rubbing is required, I get confused that by rubbing, my hands get impure and I have to wash them multiple times. Please guide me.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If your hands have become impure because of touching impurity on the body when you remove it by rubbing or by anything else, then you have to purify your hands as well. The matter is easy, and there is no need for confusion.

The method of cleaning the impurity on the body or on the hands or otherwise is to wash it with water until the water which separates from that place is clean without any impurity in it. If it is difficult to remove the smell of the impurity or its color, then this does not harm.

Al-Kharashi said in his explanation of Mukhtasar Khaleel, from the Maaliki School, "The place of impurity becomes pure by washing it to the extent of removing all the impurity as far as the eye can see, provided that its taste is gone, even if it is difficult to get rid of it, or that its color or smell is gone if is easy to remove, because if any of this remains, then it is a proof that the impurity still exists in the place… With regard to removing the color and smell when they are difficult to get rid of, then it is not a condition to get rid of them in purifying the place."

Allah knows best.
