Asalam alikum wa rahmet Allah wa barakatuh. I would like to ask if the popular toy, yoyo, is permissible to not. I have seen something that says its not, however, I would like to ask. It is a circular disk with string that you can drop and do tricks.

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

We are not aware of any religious impediment that prevents playing with what you asked about.

The Sharia allows a person to entertain himself, so if playing with this toy does not entail abandoning a religious obligation and the toy that you play with does not involve anything forbidden such as gambling, magic, polytheism, and so on, then the basic principle is that it is permissible to play with it.
