Question

Reading your answer that music is Haram, how come the Saudi 'iqra channel play music and there are Muslim radio stations in my country (South Africa-cape town) that play music?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Something is lawful if Allah and His Messenger has made it lawful. It is also unlawful if Allah and His Messenger has made it unlawful. So, the fact that some Muslims commit sins or do something forbidden does not make that thing lawful. Some Muslims commit Zina, steal, or kill others, but this does not mean that these matters become lawful.

In addition, what is truth and right are not identified by people. But people are identified by being truthful or righteous.
So, all acts are subjected to the Quran and Sunnah; if they are in contradiction with them they are rejected and if they are in line with them they are accepted. So, anybody no matter who he is, scholar or others, who does something that is not in conformity with the Quran and Sunnah, his act is rejected.

Allah knows best.
