Question

I live in Glasgow UK for one year as an illegal immigrant. Can I shorten the prayers?

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

You have to perform all prayers in full (i.e. not shorten nor combined). In simple words, whoever intends to reside in some place for more than four days should follow the rules of residents, i.e. he has to perform prayers in full and to observe fasts. This is the dominant opinion as recorded by Malik, al-Shafi'e and others.
