Fasting person experienced sexual desire but ignores whether ejaculation took place
Fatwa No: 107819

Question

I read in a fatwa of yours that sexual desire does not invalidate fasting if it is not deliberate. I was very ignorant of my religion, but praise be to Allah, Allah guided me. When I used to fast, I did matters that aroused my desire, and I did not know whether I discharged any secretions or not. If the expiation of what I used to do out of ignorance is fasting, then that is hard for me because my body does not tolerate fasting and it exhausts me. Am I required to make up for it? If so, may I feed the needy given that, as I mentioned, fasting is hard for me?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that none is worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

We praise Allah Almighty for guiding our questioning sister to the truth and to asking about the rulings of her religion. Moreover, we ask Him to keep her steadfast on guidance. Concerning her question about doing matters that arouse her sexual desire during fasting while ignoring whether she discharged something or not, this does not invalidate fasting. She is not required to make up fasts or offer an expiation. She should repent to Allah Almighty from deliberately doing matters that arouse one’s sexual desire while fasting.

Allah knows best.
