Playing games whose characters die and come back to life
Fatwa No: 360157

Question

A long time ago, I played a game in which there was respawning. As I stopped playing this game, I gave my account to a relative, who is playing this game now. I asked him if he could give me this account back so that no one would play it, but he refused to do so by saying that he will try to get his own account, and if it works, he willgive me my account back. I stopped asking him about this matter then. Is there any sin upon me?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is no sin upon you, and we have previously clarified in fatwa 359278 that it is not prohibited to play this game merely because it ends with the player's death and then a new game starts.

It is clear from the dear Brother's questions that he suffers from some sort of Waswasah (obsessive doubts), so we advise him to stop and to not let himself get carried away with his Waswasah and the questions it generates. You have sent us many questions of this nature while we have important questions whose senders are awaiting their answers; we have no time to waste in answering the questions resulting from Waswasah.

Allah knows best.
