My spiritual path to becoming a Muslim was long, winding and a very unforgiving road littered with pitfalls and traps the majority, self-imposed. Many years of darkness covered the sky in my mind. As a result of this long and sometimes-lonely journey I found the mercy of Allah the only way to recover from a self imposed mental prison. As I write this in the month or Ramadan 2007, my second in shallah of many more, I reflect back to a time when I had drifted, like a boat without a rudder or compass from the direction of God.
