Eleven Means for Women to Combat Hunger in Ramadan

Dear sister, thinking of food and drink and the inability to combat hunger indicate that there is nothing that engages you or helps you fill your free time in Ramadan. This is why we offer you these ideas to help you combat the desire to eat and make you feel the sweetness of fasting.

- Fasting Ramadan twice!

Just a moment please…this is not a joke. All you have to do is think every day of a person to invite to have Iftaar (i.e. meal to break fasting) at your (family’s) home or send food to some fasting people in the neighborhood in order to attain the reward about which the Messenger of Allah  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Whoever gives Iftaar to a fasting person will have a reward equal to his, without it detracting anything from the reward of the fasting person."

- Searching, investigating and working in charity:

Always keep your mind busy searching for the means through which you can encourage others to spend by making use of the gatherings of Ramadan in collecting some money and searching for a way to deliver it to those who deserve it.

- Reprogramming

By abandoning bad habits and engaging yourself in attempting to acquire good habits that you wish to have.

- Renovating your religious knowledge

There is no doubt that the days of the virtuous month are an opportunity to attend the gatherings arranged by girls and women in the Masaajid (i.e. mosques) for the sake of exchanging knowledge. This is a wonderful alternative to meeting friends to exchange news, wandering in markets or asking each of them about what she prepared for Iftaar. This kind of talk will increase your feeling of hunger.

- Declaring a boycott

However, this time it is not towards some goods or products but a regulated boycott to the means of media. It is a beneficial experience to imagine your life without television or satellite channels. There is no doubt that this will allow plenty of time to do more enjoyable things.

- Making use of the moments before Iftaar

The time directly before the Athaan of al-Maghrib is one of the times when you feel hungry the most. What do you think about combating this hunger with Thikr (i.e. remembrance of Allah)? Through this, you will remember the great reward Allah The Almighty Prepared for people who fast. Moreover, you will be among the people whose supplications are Answered by Allah The Almighty, namely: the fasting person, the wronged and the traveler.

- Helping your parents

There is no doubt that sitting without anything that engages you will increase your feeling of boredom and make you think of bad things like breaking your fast. Nevertheless, if you help your mother in preparing food, go to the market in her place, care for the plants of the house or do anything that your mother used to do, like helping your younger siblings in studying and caring for them, will make you attain the reward of dutifulness. Furthermore, the supplication of your mother at that time is answered because of her fasting, so do not miss this opportunity.

- Performing ‘Umrah thirty times

Do not be astonished…… You can perform an ‘Umrah everyday in Ramadan. All you have to do is avoid wasting your time between the Fajr prayer and sunrise with sleep. Instead, make use of this time in supplication, reciting the Quran and glorifying Allah The Almighty. Then, perform two Rak’ahs after sunrise to attain the reward of a complete ‘Umrah.

- Performing Hajj with the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention )

By making use of some days in the virtuous month to perform the rites of ‘Umrah in Ramadan. Performing ‘Umrah in Ramadan is like performing Hajj with the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) in terms of reward.

- Organizing Quran study circles:

There is no doubt that you wish to memorize some verses of the Quran as well as your friends, relatives and neighbors. What do you think about coordinating a meeting with them to memorize the Quran and each of you listens to the recitation of the other? This will encourage you. How beautiful it would be if you invited some young girls to join you so that you could help them memorize some short Surahs, listen to their recitation and give the distinguished among them some prizes!

- A call for understanding

We frequently complete recitation of the entire Noble Quran. However, we pass by some verses without trying to understand their meanings or aims. What do you think of making your recitation this year different by understanding the difficult verses which you do not understand in the Noble Quran?
