Question

My husband is drinks alcohol at home and he knows other unclean women and pay them a lot of money while he refuses to give me anything. Also, I heard him several times talking to these girls and stays some nights with them. I have two kids and I am pregnant in the eighth month with the third one. I am thinking of divorce. What do you think?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

If your husband is as you described, then you should warn him against the Anger of Allah and should convince him of the danger that his deeds will cause him in this life and the Hereafter as well as to your relationship and the future of your children. Spare no effort in trying to save him as this is a good act towards him and a protection for the family from being shattered and disunited; above all there are children. One of the ways of solving this problem is to seek the help of two wise men, one relative of yours and one relative of his. These men should listen to you (both) and take a covenant from the husband that he would leave drinking alcohol. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {If you fear a breach between them twain (the man and his wife), appoint (two) arbitrators, one from his family and the other from her's; if they both wish for peace, Allâh will cause their reconciliation. Indeed Allâh is Ever All Knower, Well Acquainted with all things.} [4: 35].
If your husband changes to the good, that is what is intended. Your husband ought to know that his relation with you will not continue unless he gives up drinking alcohol and having any illicit relations with alien women. If he continues on the same way, then you should ask him for divorce. In fact, there is no benefit for a chaste good woman in staying with a man who practices bad things and refuses to repent from them and give them up.
We ask Allah to ease your situation and to guide you both to that which pleases Him.
Allah knows best.
