Her husband seems addicted to pornography and chatting with girls

Question

I am a married Arabian woman for 2 years now and have a daughter. Anyway I think you heard about this problem before but for me I consider it a very serious problem I tried to deal with it in many different ways but in vain I feel terribly and I am starting to think of divorce. I discovered that my husband whom I married through relatives (didn't know him well before marriage) he seemed so decent and a good Muslim then, but after marriage I discovered that he is addicted to watching porno pictures on the net and also chatting with girls and I don't know what else but I can't deny all his good qualities and treating me so nice and please don't blame me for that because it started with him before marrying me and can't stop it also he doesn't care about skipping Salat but thank God he is still praying.
I feel I am living in hell and I pray to God to relieve me from this pain and to help my husband. I dreamed to marry a good Muslim man who will help me. Tell me how he could raise my innocent child. Also there is something else I am shy to say but whenever he watches these awful things in secret off course he wants to practice it with me and I feel he expects me to do like those dreadful girls he watches even if he doesn't say. I am sorry I wrote long letter but please help me I can't live like that especially because I am away from family in other country I mean.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

According to your information your husband prays and is nice with you, but he visits pornographic sites. As long as he performs prayers and does not violate your rights you are not allowed to ask for divorce. Asking divorce without any considerable reason in Islam is forbidden. For details read Fatwa: 87728.

We pray to Allaah, The Almighty, to help you and us and grant us all steadfastness on His Right Path. What you have to know, our dear sister, is that you must warn your husband from Allaah's Wrath, advise him, and remind him continuously of Allaah and the Last Day (the Hereafter). You have to do your duty with him in enjoining good, forbidding evil, and reminding him of the Quranic verses and the Hadeeth (Prophet's saying) that commands Muslim men and women to lower their gaze. Tell him that by failing to do so he will set a bad example for his children and ask him what his feeling would be if he sees his children doing the same. You must use wisdom and lenient and soft of argument when discussing this matter with him in order to avoid his negative or violent response. It might be better to give him some booklets or cassettes that address the problem. To know the ruling of surfing pornographic website read Fatwa: 89335.

Allaah, the Glorified and the Exalted, knows best.
