Names of the three Prophets mentioned in chapter Yaa Seen

Question

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may his blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Dear Sheikh, I would be very grateful to you if you could answer my questions regarding the people of Yasin. I would like to know the names of the Three Messengers sent to the dwellers of the town i.e. the people of Yasin (it is said that the town was Antioch, Antakiya). And is Yasin and Taha one of the Names of our beloved Prophet Nabi Muhammad Sal-Allahu Alahi Wa Sallam. The story reads as follows :- All that we know about these people is what Allah Almighty has told us in the Glorious Quran: Put forward to them a similitude the (story of ) the dwellers of the town, (it is said that the town was Antioch, Antakiya), when there came Messengers to them. When We sent them two Messengers, they belied them both, so We reinforced them with a third and they said: "Verily! We have been sent to you as Messengers." They (people of the town) said: "You are only human beings like ourselves and the Most Beneficent (Allah) has revealed nothing, you are only telling lies." The Messengers said: "Our Lord knows that we have been sent as Messengers to you, our duty is only to convey plainly (the Message)." The people said: "For us we see an evil omen from you, if you cease not we will surely stone you and a painful torment will touch you from us." The Messengers said: "Your evil omens be with you! (Do you call it "evil omen") because you are admonished? Nay but you are a people Musrifun (transgressing all bounds by committing all kinds of great sins, and by disobeying Allah)." And there came running from the farthest part of the town, a man saying: "O my people! Obey the Messengers obey those who ask no wagers of you (for themselves) and who are rightly guided. Why should I not worship Him (Allah Alone) Who has created me and to Whom you shall be returned.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, you should know that there is no authentic text that specifies the names of the Prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention, who were sent to Antakiya. The interpreters of the Quran differed in opinion on the first two Prophets who were sent to it. Some of them said that their names were Qaaroos and Maaroos, others said they were “Yahya (John) and Yoonus (Jonah)”, yet others said they were “Toomaan and Maaloos”, while others said they were “Saadiq and Sadooq.”

As regards the third Prophet, according to the view of the majority of the interpreters of the Quran, he was Sham'oon may Allaah exalt his mention and it was also said “Shaloom”, “Sam'aan” and “Booles”.

As regards Taa Haa and Yaa Seen, they are not among the names of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) rather these are like the rest of the letters with which some chapters of the Quran begin.
