Praying the Friday prayer before the beginning of Thuhr time

Question

Salam, im a university student and we are trying to organize a jumma for the students, most of them have a break from 12-2, we used to pray jumaa from 1-2, however with DST sala isnt till 1:45 is there any way we would be able to make the khutba at 1 however make adan and prayer at 1:45? Jazaka ALlahu Khairan or any other suggestions

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If you start the Friday Khutbah (speech) before the beginning time of the prayer –as it appears from the question –then this is not valid according to the view of the majority of the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them because it is a condition for the validity of the Khutbah to start at the time of Jumu’ah prayer. Therefore, we advise you to do the following:

1- Starting the Khutbah at 1:45 pm if this is the time of the beginning of Thuhr prayer, and then perform the prayer after it: 15 minutes is enough until the end of the time of the break. So, if the Khutbah lasts 10 minutes and the prayer lasts 5 minutes, then there is much good in this.

2- If it is not possible for you to do the Khutbah and the prayer in 15 minutes, then you may act according to the view of the Hanbali School of jurisprudence about the starting time of the Jumu’ah prayer as they said that it starts about 15 minutes after sunrise (i.e. when the sun has risen to the length of an arrow in the horizon, as we clarified in Fatwa 84549). According to this opinion, you may perform the Friday prayer before 1:45 pm. However, we do not advise you to act according to this opinion unless the first option is not possible. Moreover, you should not leave a large interval between the Khutbah and the prayer, because among the conditions for the validity of the Khutbah is that there should be a continuity between its pillars and between the two Khutbas, and between the two khutbas and the prayer, as stated by the jurists may Allaah have mercy upon them.

Allaah Knows best.
