Claimed healer is a magician or a sorcerer

Question

My wife was sick and her family told her about a Shaykh who could treat her. As she was unable to go to him, he asked them to bring him some of her clothes. Fearing that he might be a sorcerer, I refused, but they took some of her clothes to him without my knowledge. He told them that he would not be able to treat her because I do not believe in him even though he does not know me nor does he know about my stance concerning him. Therefore, I became certain that he uses Jinns and that he is a sorcerer. However, they say that he is one of the righteous allies of Allaah The Almighty and knows what we do not know. Would you please clarify the matter for me? Is there such a thing as this in the Sharee‘ah or is it the work of human devils?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

If the situation is as you mentioned, then this person is a magician, a sorcerer or a soothsayer who depends on the Jinn and the devils. It is impermissible to seek treatment at such peoples’ hands and you must prevent your wife from doing so.

Allaah Knows best.
