Slander against Faatimah

Question

Is it true that Faatimah, may Allaah be pleased with her, daughter of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, disputed with Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, may Allaah be pleased with them, over a piece of land that she had inherited from her father, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and that she ordered that neither of them be allowed to attend her funeral prayer or handle her burial?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The obligation of a Muslim individual towards the Companions of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is to respect and venerate them and ask Allaah The Almighty to be pleased with them. This dispute that occurred between them should be interpreted in the best possible way and justified with the best intention. Imaam An-Nawawi may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned that we are commanded to have a good opinion about all the Companions may Allaah be pleased with them. Any statement that might defame them and that cannot be explained differently must be immediately dismissed as untrue.

It is a clear fabrication and groundless claim to say that she ordered Abu Bakr and ‘Umar may Allaah be pleased with them to not attend her funeral prayer or handle her burial. This has not been reported in any of the acknowledged books of the Ahl-us-Sunnah.

Allaah Knows best.
